EV inquiry is underway

The Transport Committee has just announced an inquiry into how effectively the transition to EVs is progressing: click here to see the details.

Among other factors, the inquiry is set to consider the potential effect of the proposed Electric Vehicle Excise Duty, and the role of the second-hand market. Both have been priority areas of campaigning by the British Vehicle Rental & Leasing Association (“BVRLA”).

In response, writing on LinkedIn, BVRLA Chief Executive Toby Poston said, “This is a welcome piece of good news for the Road to Zero. The Government may think it has kept things on track by splashing the cash on UK Automotive and grants for new EV car and van registrations, but those working on the front line of the transition are experiencing a very bumpy ride.

“The continued uncertainty surrounding the ZEV Mandate, the wilful neglect of the Used EV Market and the eVED plans are damaging confidence and costing EV adopters billions of pounds.

“It is therefore great to see the House of Commons Transport Select Committee stepping up to hold the Government to account. Throughout the year, the BVRLA and its Industry Champions have kept Scott Arthur and Ruth Cadbury up to speed on what is going on. We are delighted that they and their colleagues have decided to hold this inquiry.”

The BVRLA is urging all organisations with a stake in the Road to Zero to feed back as part of the inquiry, or pick up with the Association to discuss any aspects further (policy@bvrla.co.uk).
